ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - CAREER SERVICES
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director, manages the on-campus recruiting
program and the day-to-day operations and career services programs of the
department.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages the on-campus interview program which matches the needs and interests
of students with employers and which meets the needs and resources of the
University.

Initiates and maintains extensive contact with corporations and other employing
organizations to promote their interest in recruiting University students
and to coordinate the interview program; and follows-up to assure continued
interest and resolve problems.

Develops recruiting strategies based on knowledge of employer organizations
and student interest and needs.

Assists the Director in the planning, development, evaluation and administration
of department programs and policies.

Shares in management of day-to-day operation of department including coordination
or staff activities, workflow and supervision of staff.

Serves as a resource to other career counseling professionals regarding
department policies and procedures, effective counseling techniques, workshop
planning and coordination of department activities.

Provides career counseling, individually and in groups, to students and
alumni.

Designs, administers and conducts placement technique workshops, including
interviewing, resume development, job search skills and summer job opportunities.

Develops and writes information, educational and promotional materials
for distribution to students, University departments and employers.

Makes recommendations regarding development of computer applications and
develops computer applications related to areas of responsibility.

Designs, organizes and conducts outreach programs for classes, academic
departments, residence halls, student groups and off-campus and community
groups.

Keeps informed regarding current developments and trends in the job market.

Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
-
Master's degree in Student Personnel services, counseling or related discipline.

Four to six years directly related experience, at least half of which must
be in a college or University career services office.

Supervisory, administrative and leadership skills.

Strong interpersonal and communications skills
-
Demonstrated ability to take initiative in developing employment opportunities.

Knowledge of University programs, the business community and the job market.

Good counseling and group leadership skills
-
Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours.
OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
-
Working knowledge of computers and computer applications.
