SENIOR DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of designated administrator, independently
plans, organizes and carries out highly complex or specialized fund raising
programs and other general fund raising projects as part of the total development
effort of the University.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Independently plans, organizes and carries out a full range of fund raising
programs which are usually complex or highly specialized.

Coordinates and schedules all logistical details and make necessary arrangements
for programs.

Identifies prospective donors through the use of various demographic profiles
and other researched data.

Cultivates and fosters effective University/donor relationships and solicits
prospective donors through written communication, personal contact, formal
presentations and a variety of other social and professional contacts.

Is responsible for gift acknowledgment and donor recognition program.

Develops and designs promotional and informational fund raising materials
and arranges for publicity in assigned areas of responsibility.

Advises potential donors regarding tax law, investments, estate law, tax
savings and other technical aspects of charitable financial planning.

Resolves all financial technicalities and drafts agreements, which bind
the donor and the University to a long-term relationship.

Matches donor interests to identified University needs and interests.

Organizes, trains and provides leadership to groups of volunteers who assist
in carrying out various fund raising activities.

May assist in developing proposals for soliciting specific funds from donors.

Plans and coordinates special events to promote fund raising activities.

Trains and supervises support staff.

Maintains close liaison to and advises university administrators, faculty
and others who may be negotiating for a gift, developing a proposal or
planning a fund raising campaign.

Plans, organizes and carries out general fund raising projects as needed.

Represents the Director at meetings and assumes designated responsibilities
in the absence of the Director.

Assesses effectiveness of planned giving program and recommends improvements.

Plans and presents seminars on estate planning for potential donors, lawyers,
accountants, financial planners, and other interested parties.

Assists faculty in the development of proposals for corporations, foundations
and individuals.

Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in appropriate field

Three to five years fund raising and/or planned giving experience.

Demonstrated competence in tax law, investments and other technical aspects
of charitable financial planning.

Excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all constituent and
target groups, verbally and in writing.

High level of motivation and assertiveness and ability to exercise independent
judgment

Good organizational skills
-
Knowledge of higher education and its organizational structures
-
Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours.
