JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of designated administrator, manages and directs
the recruiting programs of the Office of Admission for the School of Social
Work and School of Law and coordinates the minority recruitment efforts.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the principle resource to students, faculty, and the public on
all matters relating to admissions procedures and minority recruitment.
- Prescreens and evaluates all applications and subject to the wishes of the
Admissions Committee, denies or grants admissions in clear-cut cases.
- Serves as a non-voting member of the School’s Admissions Committee;
brings policy matters and changes to the attention of the Committee.
- Plans a recruiting strategy for attracting minority students and actively
recruits prospective minority students through visits to colleges and agencies
throughout the Northeast; coordinates all aspects of Minority Recruitment
Conference.
- Determines the need for, writes and oversees publication of all admissions
and recruitment materials; oversees the revision of all forms, as needed.
- Prepares studies, analyses and statistical reports as the basis for recommending
changes in admissions policy, recruiting strategy, or other related issues.
- Develops procedures for implementing admissions policies; works with other
office to ensure smooth progression of admitted students through the system.
- Coordinates programs designed to enhance the recruitment, admissions and
retention of minority students.
- May oversee aspect of the Financial Aid Office, recommends policies for
implementing financial aid programs, and participates in financial aid award
decisions.
- Supervises professional, clerical and student staff; sets priorities and
monitor work flow.
- Represents the School at local, regional and national seminars and conferences.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Master’s degree in appropriate field and 2 years admissions/financial
aid experience.
OR
Bachelor’s and 3 to 5 years admissions/financial aid experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups from minority
populations, coupled with knowledge and understanding of issues related to
minority recruiting.
- Excellent counseling and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Administrative experience.
- Willingness to travel extensively and to work irregular and flexible hours.
