Advance of sick leave is a policy which allows classified employees who use up their accrued sick, personal (T-time), and vacation time to apply for an advance of sick leave with pay based on their length of State service. (CGS Section 5-247-5)
No advance of sick leave may be granted unless an employee has completed at least five years of full time State work service. If approved, such extension shall be on the basis of one day at full pay for each completed year of full time work service. In no case shall advance sick leave exceed thirty days at full pay. Any approved advance sick leave shall be repaid by a charge against such sick leave as the employee may subsequently accrue. Repayment of advance sick leave shall be required as determined by the collective bargaining agreement.
