Special Payroll Helpdocs - SPAR Actions


The University of Connecticut uses the Special Payroll to hire for short term, temporary, seasonal, and part-time professional staffing needs.  When entering a special payroll request, select one of the following five special payroll actions.
 

New Hire/Rehire No Break in Service Action

The New Hire action is to be used when requesting authorization to hire an individual for a new special payroll appointment. 

  • Request to hire an individual on a new appointment.  (I-9’s are required.)
  • Request to rehire an individual when there is no break in service.

Rehire with Break in Service Action

The Rehire with a Break in Service action is to be used when requesting authorization to hire an individual who is not currently employed on the special payroll, but has held a previous appointment on special payroll.

  • Request to hire an individual who is not currently employed on the special payroll, but has held a previous appointment on special payroll. (I-9’s are required.)
  • Request to hire an Adjunct Faculty for each subsequent semester after the initial new hire appointment.  This option should also be used each semester for Adjunct Faculty who have been offered a 3-year appointment.

Data Change Action

The Data Change action is to be used when requesting a revision to an existing active payroll authorization.  Data changes replace the entirety of the original special payroll authorization.

Change start date (An appointment can only begin after final HR approval in SPAR) No - Submit a revised PA to Payroll

Independent Study Action

The Independent Study action is to be used when requesting compensation for a current faculty member to facilitate an independent study course.

 

Faculty Summer Research (FSR) Action

The Faculty Summer Research (FSR) action is to be used when requesting work authorization for a faculty member conducting summer research.

  • Request for current faculty seeking work authorization for summer research.
  • Request for compensation can be entered at the time of the request or upon completion of the work.  Funding information must be provided at this time.
