Special Payroll Information

Special payroll is a temporary professional payroll, used for a variety of purposes, including adjunct faculty, summer research grant work, re-employed retirees, seasonal appointments, and summer teaching appointments for faculty.  Following an audit conducted by the Office of Audit, Compliance, and Ethics in late spring/summer of 2009, the University designed and implemented an electronic workflow system to monitor and centralize special payroll transactions.  This system, named Special Payroll Authorization Request (SPAR), was launched July 1, 2009.  To hire an individual on a special payroll appointment, please submit a request through the Special Payroll Authorization Request (SPAR) system below.
