Residence halls open for Spring Semester of the 2004-2005 academic year on Sunday, January 16, 2005 with classes beginning on Tuesday, January 18, 2005. Monday, January 17, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a day on which the University is closed.
We are faced with two appropriate needs: to honor the memory and pay tribute to the work of Dr. King, and to provide service and support for new and returning students who need to resolve scheduling and other problems. I am asking, therefore, that student service and academic departmental offices remain open on Monday, January 17, 2005. I would further ask that, within these parameters, directors and department heads establish staffing patterns which accommodate individual wishes to observe the holiday.
Thank you.
